William Martin builds the first movie theater in Hemet's history on Florida Street, just across from the current location.

Earthquake Impact
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake on the local San Jacinto Fault causes significant damage to the theater and other buildings in the Hemet downtown area.
Reinventing the Venue
William Martin rebuilds the theater on the north side of the street, reinforcing it with concrete block walls to protect his investment. This marks the birth of the iconic Hemet Theatre that stands today.

Renovations and Changes
The theater undergoes renovations in the 1940s and the 1960s. The pointed marquee is replaced with the current flat version during the latter renovation.

A New Chapter
In March, the Foundation secures the purchase of the building with financing from the previous owners. The "Century Club" campaign is initiated to fund the theatre's renovation, commemorating its 100th anniversary in 2021. The facility is returned to full operation as a Community Arts Center, marking a new era for this valley treasure.
